'It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, And a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.' Isaiah 4:6
When we relocated to Observatory in 2001 our community volunteers met many women of all ages who were living in unpleasant surroundings. So a weekly Ladies Group was formed to provide a pleasant place for these women to relax and make friends while their children play in a safe, creative and fun environment. It is a place of shelter from the harsh storms of life for a few hours each week, and there have been many answers to prayer for very immediate needs, like healing, jobs, housing, etc.
Each term there are a variety of activities and teaching times, including a creative and visual presentation of the Gospel, and teaching in crafts such as fabric painting, mug painting, jewellery making, etc. A group of dedicated volunteers provide soup and sandwiches with donations from a local farm stall, while the children are entertained with toys, stories and songs.
With the generous donation of two computers, basic computer skills are now being taught and the vision is to provide more and more training in basic job skills, literacy, etc.
