Stephen finishes off our series entitled ‘Stories that change lives’ by looking at the parable of the persistent widow. In this parable we get to see a clear picture of God and of ourselves that helps us to draw close to God in prayer.

The story of the Shrewd Manager in Luke 16:1-9 is often regarded as the most difficult to understand of all the parables that Jesus taught. In fact the Lord is challenging us to be shrewd, or wise in the way we live. This affects our salvation, our relationships and the way that we use our money.

In Luke 6:46, Jesus says "Why do you call me Lord, Lord and do not do what I say". Wesley takes a closer look at this verse and how the verses which follow (the wise and foolish builders) fit into the context.

Jesus' parable of the rich fool is all about someone who got his priorities terribly wrong. Instead of being 'rich toward God', the focus of this man’s life centred in the abundance of his possessions. Reading this parable and Jesus’ comments to His disciples provokes a reassessment of the priorities of our own lives. What do you treasure in life? How does this line up with God’s priorities for you?
