Stephen finishes off our Lasting Joy series by looking at Paul’s attitude to culture and Christian giving. In these final verses in Philippians 4 Paul gives us some of the richest teaching on giving in the New Testament.

Philippians 4:8-13
Paul urges us to right thinking, particularly in the area of truth. He also challenges us to right living, meaning that we are not just to recieve truth, but also to practise it. Finally, Paul would have us ensure that we have a right attitude. We can be content in all circumstances if we are not self reliant, but Christ reliant.

Philippians 3:20-4:7. Paul urges Believers to stand firm in a number of areas. To stand firm in their citizenship as they realize heaven is where they really belong. Firm in unity, not letting disagreements keep them apart, Firm in joy, because it is in the Lord and not in circumstances. Firm in gentleness as they seek to build a community of overwhelming love. And to stand firm in peace because they have a faithful God.

Lex looks at a highly inspirational section of scripture and exhorts us to pursue ‘the upward call of God’ with all our hearts, knowing that our heavenly Father is there to ensure we finish the race.
